Why Carlos Munoz is the Biggest Sleeper Threat to Win at Fontana
8.29.14 (via racereviewonline.com) – Saturday night, the Verizon IndyCar Series season will come to a close. We will crown the 2014 champion, the Fontana race winner and the rookie of the year. One shoo in for the rookie of the year award should be Andretti Autosport driver Carlos Munoz as all he has to do is finish 16th or better and the crown is his.
Munoz has had a very solid season as I can honestly see it ending in a victory at Fontana this weekend.
The youngster has been very good in 500-mile races over his brief career as he finished second in the Indy 500 as a rookie a year ago and was in the hunt to win at Fontana filling in for E.J. Viso last year but crashed while running third just past the halfway point.
In 2014, Munoz came home fourth at Indy and third at Pocono to give him three top four finishes in four career 500-mile starts.
With that being said, a lot of drivers are going to be points racing on Saturday night, Munoz is going for the win. How many times over different forms of motorsports have we seen the sleeper win the season finale and propel them to a storied career?
That could happen to Munoz.
I like his chances this weekend and honestly think he will be battling it out for the win at the end. Munoz, is my sleeper this weekend as I feel another top five is coming.
From there, he’s a legit title contender next season.
