Congratulations to Gabe Covert who is this week’s Andretti Autosport Fan of the Week! Gabe lists IZOD IndyCar Series driver James Hinchcliffe as his favorite Andretti Autosport driver. Covert appreciates Hinchcliffe’s off-track ‘funny-man’ personality. “I have been a fan for a long time, but drivers like James are what the series needs to get younger fans, like my kids, interested,” said Covert.
In January 2012, Covert had the opportunity to tour the Andretti Autosport headquarters in Indianapolis. During the visit, Covert took a photo with Dan Wheldon’s No. 26 machine that he drove to victory in the 2005 Indianapolis 500. “Getting to share that with my son was an amazing moment,” said Covert.
To Covert and many other race enthusiasts, the Andretti name is representative of IndyCar racing. “No other team has the combination of the history with the sport, drivers with fan-friendly personality and a desire for IndyCar to succeed and flourish,” comments Covert. This season, Covert hopes to see Ryan Hunter-Reay win another IZOD IndyCar Series Championship, as well as see (Marco) Andretti finish a close second.
All four series for Andretti Autosport head to the Indy 200 at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. Catch all the action live on NBC Sports Network this Sunday at 3 p.m.
