Congratulations to Ron Ford who is this week’s Andretti Autosport Fan of the Week! Ron lists IZOD IndyCar Series driver, and newest member to the Andretti team, E.J. Viso as his favorite Andretti Autosport driver.
Ford considers himself to be one of the longest standing American fans of Ernesto Jose “E.J.” Viso. Viso will compete in his sixth IZOD IndyCar Series season and first with Andretti Autosport during the 2013 season, however Ford has followed E.J.’s career since 2005 when he ran in the GP2 Series. “I became aware of E.J. Viso when he was driving GP2. After his massive incident at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours, his comeback showed him as a seriously fearless driver,” said Ford.
In 2008, Viso’s rookie year, the Venezuelan competed in 17 races, one of which was held at Richmond International Raceway. “I became a huge fan of E.J. when I met him in Richmond. I realized how funny and personable he is towards his fans,” Ford comments. “Hopefully we’ll be seeing E.J. on the top of the podium this year.”
Ford became an open-wheel racing fan in his younger years when he used to watch races on the other side of the world during his first job. Although Ford has been a fan for many years, he lists his favorite racing memory to be from last year’s Grand Prix of Baltimore presented by SRT, an event promoted by Andretti Autosport’s sister company, Andretti Sports Marketing. “My favorite memory was seeing my 5-year-old daughter’s face the first time she heard an IndyCar engine in Baltimore,” said Ford. “I am looking forward to sharing more races with my daughter this season.”
