How did you get your start in racing? I was living in London at the time, but was visiting the United States. I had a friend from New Zealand that was working in Formula 1 and offered me a job as I was on my way back home.
How long have you been working in racing? I have been working in racing for 35 years and I am starting my sixth year with Andretti Autosport.
What is your favorite racing memory? I have two racing memories that are my favorite. The first is winning this year’s championship with Ryan Hunter-Reay. The other is winning the championship with Al Unser Jr. in 1994. In each case, it is a full year’s commitment with hard work and it is nice to get that positive result.
What do you do when the team is at the track? I work with Michael (Andretti) and Ray Gosselin (RHR's engineer) on Hunter-Reay's car strategy. I oversee all team operations with both George (Klotz) and Kyle (Moyer).
What was it like working with RHR this year and then winning the championship? It was great working with RHR and the whole No. 28 team. Hunter-Reay is very focused on racing, but is great with all of his guys. Winning the championship was amazing and everyone put forth a ton of effort despite ups and downs to make it happen. It was awesome to come back and win it at the last race – yeah!!
Who is one of your favorite racing figures? Mario Andretti as he was one that could drive anything and make it win. That included F1, Indy cars, or sports cars. I watched him ride a super bike at Laguna Seca and was extremely impressed with his talent on that also.
Aside from racing, what is one of your favorite foods from New Zealand? A Sunday dinner in New Zealand is my favorite. It would include roast lamb with roast potatoes & veggies and then complete with meat pies. Yum!
