Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
J-F Thormann, who has worked alongside Michael Andretti for the past three decades, joined Andretti Autosport in September 2006 and now works as the company's executive vice president and chief operating officer. He also oversees driver and team development programs in Firestone Indy Lights, Pro Mazda Championship and the USF2000 National Championship.
A graduate of Towson University in Baltimore, Thormann spent many years in the petroleum industry before becoming Michael Andretti's closest business advisor. Thormann owned and operated successful retail sites for Shell, Texaco and Sunoco. He was also the Managing Director for the International Retail Corporation which operated 17 high-volume Amoco, Mobil and Sunoco service stations on the Eastern Seaboard interstate highways.
Thormann also serves on the Board of Directors for The Michael Andretti Foundation.
Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer
John Lopes joined Andretti Autosport in January 2005 and currently holds the titles of senior vice president and chief marketing officer.
Lopes directs the company's commercial operations, including business development, marketing, client services and corporate communications.
Lopes is a 1985 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., where his concentrations included both engineering and international security. While at West Point, Lopes served as co-captain of the varsity football team and class president of the class of 1985. He served more than five years as an air-cavalry aviation officer/helicopter pilot and served as an aviation headquarters commander in the Seventh Infantry Division during "Operation Just Cause" in the Republic of Panama.
A 1993 graduate of the Duke University School of Law, Lopes practiced law for five years before taking a job as the general manager of TeamXtreme Racing, where he stayed until leaving for Champ Car in 2001.
A mainstay of the motorsports industry for the past two decades, Lopes came to Andretti Autosport from Champ Car where he served as executive vice president of operations from 2001 through 2004.
Director of Racing Operations
With over 80 race victories, five Indy 500 wins and six series championships under his leadership, 20-year racing veteran Kyle Moyer returns to Andretti Autosport in 2014 to again serve as the Director of Racing Operations for the championship-winning IndyCar team. Moyer oversees Andretti's entire racing operation as well as pit-to-car communications for Marco Andretti and the No. 25 Snapple Honda. Since beginning his racing career in 1978 with Bettenhausen Racing, Moyer worked with such organizations as Gurney/Curb Racing and Galles-Kraco Racing before joining Forsythe-Green racing in 1993. He made the move to Team Green in 1994 and has continued at the Zionsville Road-based race shop through the days of Team KOOL Green and Andretti Green Racing. The Indiana-native remains a staple of the race team now solely owned by Michael Andretti.
